  2. Selecting a theme or topic or problem to be solved

  3. Apply the principles of innovation (e.g. TRIZ, Bug List, Design Thinking, testing their invention ideas with "real" customers)

  4. Create a design and prototype (possibly make a 3D printed prototype)

  5. Incoprorate the principles of Intellectual Property (patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets) as part of their invention.

  6. Developing a marketing strategy and plan for pitching their inventions on Friday

That plan will include:

  1. Brainstorming ideas and topics for Special Project

  2. Selecting a theme or topic or problem to be solved

  3. Apply the principles of innovation (e.g. TRIZ, Bug List, Design Thinking, testing their invention ideas with "real" customers)

  4. Create a design and prototype (possibly make a 3D printed prototype)

  5. Incoprorate the principles of Intellectual Property (patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets) as part of their invention.

  6. Developing a marketing strategy and plan for pitching their inventions on Friday

Copyrights and Fair Use - Lesson Plans for the Classroom
In this session, Susan Anthony will introduce an interactive activity with a brief introduction to the concept of “fair use” in U.S. law and she and Tanaga Boozer will lead Institute participants in MSU’s Copyright/Fair Use Lesson Plan, “A Matter of Ethics: Copying and Fair Use,” developed for High School Students (Grades 10-12).  This exercise will be followed by a panel discussion/presentation by the developers of this Lesson Plan to provide Institute participants with take-aways for their own lesson plans.
